The OSNA is a pre-professional organization run by nursing students. We are always appreciative of volunteers, and this is also a good way to get involved with the OSNA (dip your feet in the water) and see what kind of resources we can provide you with.
The OSNA has committees on which you can volunteer, a yearly convention that needs volunteers, and various events around the state that you can attend. Please contact our Board of Directors for more information,

Step 1: Review the Committee Descriptions
Convention: I need volunteers across the board, ranging from helping the speakers, raising money, to as simple as coming to the convention to set or clean up. Let me know what you are interested in and what your specific skill set is so we can match you up to the perfect job! I would love to have members who are creative, hard working, dependable, committed, fun, available and of course crafty! If you feel like volunteering is not something you are interested in doing but have ideas as to what you would like at the convention please pass that information on as well. Community Outreach Committee: I am looking for four members to be in the community outreach committee. I need motivated, responsible, team player and networking people. Their duties include:
Assisting me in finding volunteer opportunities for nursing students to get involved within their communities.
Find community events related to health and nursing across Oregon where nursing students can participate
Find community resources in Oregon for nursing students
Network with community leaders and obtain contact information
So far, I have organized a group of nursing students to participate in a twice monthly student nurse volunteer night at SnowCap Charities in Gresham, Oregon. I have organized a student nurse run Healthcare Equity Foot Clinic at the Healthcare Equity Fair in Pioneer Square, Portland in November 2018. I have informed nursing students about volunteer opportunities such as the health fairs. I post the information in our webpage, facebook page and e-mail the schools. My responsibilities include looking for volunteer opportunities and community events related to health care/nursing. firstname.lastname@example.org
Legislative Education Committee: Group Goals
Will be committed in finding a health problem or issue to resolve
Will be committed to researching our position in which the resolution will represent
Will be committed to drafting and producing final drafts of resolution (One for BOD, one for LSNA(?))
Will be committed to evaluating the results (if implementation is needed) and/or suggest an implementation
Will follow evidence-based practice principles when forming an implementation
Optional for NSNA presentation or participation
Committed to OSNA and ONA's mission, reason for being, rights/responsibilities state in the Bylaws
All policies passed and currently used by OSNA will be used for Legislative Committee
All persons are expected to meet once a month as determined by committee (or more if needed)
All members will be familiar with the NSNA resolution guideline (will use as backbone to guide writing)
Legislative Education Director will chair meetings
Membership Coordination Committee: 1. I want people from all areas of the state. 2. I would link people that would be willing to help with community events. 3. I would like people that are willing to visit schools in their area. 4. I would like members of the committee to be available by e-mail. 5. It would be preferable that members of this committee are outgoing and knowledgeable about the OSNA. email@example.com Nominations and Elections Committee: -I am looking for nursing students who are interested in getting others involved to serve on the Nominations and Elections Committee (NEC). As a member of the NEC, you will have a number of roles: 1. Spread information regarding offices 2. Encourage participation among various chapters 3.Recruit qualified candidates 4.Prepare the slate of qualified candidates for elections I will need at least four individuals to assist in these activities. One of my goals for this year is to increase the involvement of individuals from school chapters not currently represented in OSNA. In order to do this, I would like individuals with a variety of connections to different school chapters and geographical locations. -Since the NEC reviews candidates and credentials, persons who wish run for office the following year should not apply to be on this committee. firstname.lastname@example.org
Professional Development Committee: 1. The goal of this committee is to provide OSNA members and other nursing students throughout Oregon with information about various professional development opportunities across the state, including volunteer opportunities, NCLEX prep courses, certifications, and more. 2. Members need to be committed to researching professional development opportunities in their area and communicating this information with the committee chair on a monthly basis. 3. Members need to be motivated and able to work independently within their area of the state, as well as be a team player as we collaborate to develop a comprehensive list of resources for our audience. 4. Breakthrough to Nursing Committee: I am looking for motivated individuals throughout the state that can assist me in: ·Locating opportunities and/or volunteering to visit local high schools, skill centers, technical schools, vocational centers, community colleges and universities to speak with potential nursing students about the wide variety of opportunities in nursing. ·Networking with other area schools and/or Student Nurses Association to share projects and ideas that related to Breakthrough. ·Mentoring a Prenursing student *Members need to be available via e-mail, and for occasional virtual meetings. firstname.lastname@example.org
Media Committee: Our committee meets online once a month to review the web site, submit and proof articles for publication in our newsletter and website. There is also a ongoing need for a tech savvy individual to assist in website development. email@example.com
Fundraising Committee: OSNA is looking for volunteers to head up a fundraising committee to benefit the state wide funds. Funds generated help to keep the cost of member ship dues low statewide. They also help to facilitate convention activities and keep convention attendance fees low. OSNA is looking for a diverse group of dynamic leaders with experience (or interest in gaining experience) in fundraising activities. The benefit of leading or serving on this committee is the boost to your resume and the statewide network connections you will make.
