Mission Statement
OSNA is an organization of future nurse professionals throughout Oregon that fosters unity, personal & collective responsibility to improve the future of nursing through professional development, collaboration, social advocacy, community service, and education.

Your 2007-2008 Board of Directors

President
Nina Katovic
Oregon Health & Science University
Welcome to the OSNA website! My name is Nina Katovic. I will be a junior this fall in the OCNE curriculum at the OHSU School of Nursing. I love our program and am very excited about becoming the best nurse that I can be. I am passionate about helping those who need our help and being an advocate for those who need a voice. I can’t imagine a better way to do this than through nursing. My background is in behavioral neuroscience, for which I received a master's degree studying the impact of prenatal drug abuse on development and behavior during adolescence and adulthood. I realized quickly that I prefer working with people rather than working in a lab setting. I am honored to be a part of OSNA. My vision is to create a strong and supportive foundation for each other as nursing students, and with this, go into our communities and make a difference in the lives of others. Outside of nursing, I enjoy hiking in the woods with my dog, playing guitar and singing, and spending time with good friends.

Vice-President
Kathleen Wirtz
Linfield College
My name is Kathleen Wirtz and I will soon be a senior at Linfield School of Nursing, with plans to transition into a Certified Nurse Midwifery program. My home is in Kelso, Washington, where I raised five children and volunteered most recently for Cowlitz County Habitat for Humanity as an executive director. Nursing and midwifery are a lifelong dream I'm grateful to finally pursue.

Executive Director
Pazely Yates
Concordia University
Hey there, my name is Pazely Yates, and I am in my senior year of nursing school in Concordia University's BSN program. During my first two years of school I participated in student government, first on the judicial committee and then as student body Vice-President. I also worked for Bank of America as a teller. Each of these experiences have helped me learn to enjoy working with many different people. Now that I have been working with patients in nursing homes and hospitals, I can't imagine not becoming a nurse. Some fun facts: I am the oldest of 10 children, I love to dance, and I used to be that goofy little girl trying to sell you Girl Scout cookies. ;-)

Membership Director
Beth Bolander
Linfield College
I am a Senior at Linfield School of Nursing. I am originally from Alaska where I worked for the State of Alaska for ten years. I decided to quit my job and move to Oregon to attend nursing school, because I wanted a more rewarding career. I think I'll end up working as a public health nurse, but haven't made a final decision yet. I enjoy world travel and am excited that I'm embarking on a career that will afford me that pleasure. I have two children, a 19 year old daughter, and an 11 year old son. I'm also the proud owner of a corn snake named Cyrus.

Breakthrough to Nursing Director
Carey Kulp
Portland Community College
Hello! My name is Carey Kulp. I am originally from Colorado, and have lived in Oregon since April 2000. I am beginning my final year in the Nursing program at PCC and I am very excited to be serving as President of our school NSNA chapter. Prior to becoming a Student Nurse, I worked several years in the beauty industry as a Cosmetologist, in the healthcare industry in private offices, and in hospitals. I have learned to work with people from all walks of life and a variety of ages; I really enjoy serving others. I am honored and energized to be a member of this great organization and I am passionate about getting others involved in nursing. It took me several years to get the nerve to work towards becoming a nurse; I don't want anyone who feels compelled to pursue nursing as a career, to not do it, because of fear, or other barriers! I hope to work one day in an ER, ICU, Hospice, and/or Oncology as I pursue my nursing career. On a personal note, I have a wonderful husband, two dogs, and a kitty that I love dearly.

Media Director
Kindra Scanlon
Portland Community College
Brimming with motivation to work diligently for OSNA, I bring more than ten years experience in Marketing and Design, as well as a BFA (graduated Magna Cum Laude in Marketing and Multimedia Design) to this wonderful organization. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of OSNA. I volunteer with Portland Impact (and various sport events; Oregon Bridge Pedal, Race for the Cure, etc.), love my science classes at PCC (chemistry and biology are super interesting), and most of all, enjoy working to better other people's lives. Being a service-oriented person, I understand the bigger picture, while still keeping my eye on the details important to each individual.

Colby Willis
Concordia University
I am a senior at Concordia University in the nursing program taking advantage of a wonderful learning experience. Upon completion of my BSN I look forward to a career in critical care nursing, where I hope to draw from my past education and experiences as an EMT. I was born and raised in a small town in British Columbia, Canada, and now call Portland home with my husband, and our two dogs. I enjoy the outdoors, hiking, biking, golfing, and snowboarding.

Elections/Bylaws Director
Patricia Gleason Heilman
Concordia University
Hello.  My name is Patricia Gleason Heilman.   I am a senior nursing student in the BSN program at Concordia University. I am a native of Camarillo, California. My mom was an RN who fostered in me a love of nursing and an interest in science at a very young age. I began my undergraduate work in biology but also became interested in business. I graduated from Santa Clara University with a BS in Commerce, and a degree in Marketing.  I worked for more than 8 years for a fortune 500 company in sales & account management. I “retired” from that profession when my daughter was born.  I knew I wanted to further my education and get involved with health care.  I was accepted into a Masters Program at California Lutheran University where I graduated with a MS in Marital & Family Therapy.  I had the opportunity to work in the University counseling center for more than one year and work with individuals, couples, families, and children. I was involved in a mobile crisis counseling organization and we visited families who needed assistance in mediation & conflict resolution. I volunteered at a homeless shelter and became intimately familiar with domestic violence issues. Our lives changed when my husband accepted a position in Portland.  Five months later, my second daughter was born and we relocated to Portland, OR. I was a stay-at-home mom for several years, took care of my parents and did volunteer work in the elementary schools, my parish, and several other organizations.  With my girls settled in school, I was able to pursue my nursing dream. I am thrilled to be at Concordia University and a board member for OSNA. I look forward to the coming year.
